Mixed martial arts fighter and former Ultimate Fighting Championship champion Tito Ortiz has been arrested suspicion of domestic violence after neighbours reported a "disturbance" at the couple's Huntington Beach, California home.

Putting aside assumptions that, when living next door to a porn star and an MMA fighter, disturbances might generally be assumed as the status quo, Ortiz is being held in custody after police found "visible injuries" on Jameson, according to online gossip site TMZ.

The adult movie star was later spotted leaving a local drug store with a medical brace on her right arm.

Jameson, wearing large sunglasses, told photographers, "I'm gonna be alright," confirming that she will be pressing charges against the fighter as she drove away from the family home with her father.

"My babies are alright... he's in jail," she added through tears.

Ortiz was walked out to a waiting police cruiser wearing red fight shorts and a grey jacket, with his hands cuffed behind his back beneath the top. He was moved to Orange County's Huntington Beach jailhouse.

Lieutenant Mike Reynolds told MMAJunkie.com Huntington Beach PD officers arrested Ortiz nearly two hours after the 9:53 a.m. 911 call that brought them to the scene. The fighter faces felony charges over the incident though charges have yet to be laid.

Ortiz is "cooperating with the investigation" according to Reynolds, though the fighter had earlier denied he was being arrested, even as he was being led away in handcuffs.

UFC President Dana White told TMZ Ortiz will get a fair hearing from his employers but could find himself cut from the fight promotion if he is found guilty of the charges.

The long-time couple are unmarried but have twin 13-month-old boys.

Ortiz was the light heavyweight champion of the UFC for three years, from 2000 to 2003, but fell from the limelight after becoming embroiled in a personality battle with UFC President Dana White, losing his title, and becoming injured. He recently returned to the billion-dollar fight promotion but lost his comeback fight to Forrest Griffin in a split decision, and was then removed as a coach from the current season of Spike TV's The Ultimate Fighter after an undisclosed incident.

The removal of Ortiz from the series saw him withdrawn from UFC 115 at Vancouver's GM Place against former champ Chuck Liddell.
