EL Rufai returns to Nigeria

Thursday, April 29, 2010

Former Minister Federal Capital territory, Mallam Nasir El Rufai has stated that he will return to the country on Saturday May 1st.

In a statement signed by his counsel, Bamidele Aturu and made available to Vanguard in Lagos, El Rufai said his return is a demonstration of his unshaken conviction that he is not a fugitive.

The statement reads : “I have the firm instruction of Mallam Nasir El Rufai, Nigeria ’s former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory , to inform the public that, by the Grace of God, he will be returning to Nigeria on Saturday the 1st of May 2010.”

“It will be recalled that Mallam El Rufai had reluctantly suspended his return to Nigeria in December 2009 following hazy and troubling political developments surrounding the ill-health of the President, particularly desperate attempts by a shadowy cabal to exercise presidential powers surreptitiously and of course illegally. Mallam Nasir El Rufai is happily returning to Nigeria to rejoin his family members, political associates, friends and well wishers.

He remains eternally grateful to all Nigerians and nationals of other countries who showed him uncommon solidarity during the period of mischievous, orchestrated and unwarranted attacks directed at him and his family. He wishes to make clear that he bears no grudge against any person or group for their role in the unfortunate but doomed campaign of calumny.”

“This announcement is a demonstration of his unshaken conviction that he is not, he has never been and he will never be a fugitive. He believes that he did nothing in or outside of government that was against the law and that would warrant his running away from the law. He is returning to engage with other patriots in the process of ensuring consolidation of democracy and development in our country.
