The Nigerian music industry has once again proved to be a force to reckon with as twin sensation Psquare, emerged the African Artiste of The Year at KORA All Africa Music Awards held at Ouagadougou, Burkina-Faso, last Sunday.

Psquare defeated the Senegalese group, Black Diamond; Angola's Paul G; and home grown Amety Meria to cart home the award plus $Im at the event that was graced by celebrities from all over Africa, including the host country's president, Blaise Compaore.

Ghana's Becca got the Best African Prospect; Senegalese singer, Chronicle 2h, was named Best Reggae Artiste; and Alicia Keys, who was absent, was crowned Best African-American artiste of the Diaspora.

The diva from Cape Verde, Cesaria Evora, and Gabon's Pierre Akendengue picked up Lifetime Achievement awards at the event where tributes were paid to the late American pop singer, Michael Jackson, who died last year.

Although absent from the venue of the awards, Psquare flew into Burkina Faso to pick up their award from the country's president, who had earlier received it on their behalf.

Psquare got their first KORA nomination in 2003, a few months after the release of their debut album Senorita.

However, Senegalese born American R&B star, Akon who was offered a private jet and $150,000 for the show could not make the trip to Ouagadougou to the chagrin of the Ernest Adjovi-led organisers.
