Daniel Ponce de Leon vs. Cornelius Lock
Referee: Jay Nady

Round 1
Lock is on the outside while Ponce de Leon stalks him. Straight from Danny countered by a right from Lock. Lock attacks the body while Danny lets him. Ponce de Leon is fighting roughly against Lock, not allowing him to outmaneuver him around the ring.
De Leon 10-9

Round 2
Lock isn’t being active enough to outscore De Leon right now. Ponce works the body and follows with work to the head. Lock is attempting to counterpunch but not defending well enough to win points off of this strategy. De Leon is just landing the more powerful shots to carry the early rounds.
De Leon 10-9

Round 3
De Leon is working the jab well and still outworking Lock. This is a welcome change to the usual De Leon that we are used to seeing. He’s handling the boxer well and overpowering him, without getting careless.
De Leon 10-9

Round 4
Lock is exchanging more this round as he seems to have abandoned the stick-and-move strategy that was failing him so far. I think the reason for De Leon’s renewed style can be directly attributed to the loss of his rat tail. That thing was so 1991 and it’s good to see it gone. De Leon is the more active guy once again and it’s enough to give him the round.
De Leon 10-9

Round 5
Lock is elusive on De Leon’s wild shots. De Leon is throwing a lot of left-right, one-two combos. A nice exchange sees De Leon land a nice right while Lock comes over with a flush left. Lock is having a better round. De Leon is feinting at the body. Another exchange happens in the center of the ring as they trade wild shots without many of them landing. Lock doesn’t seem to be getting the better of these exchanges either; leaving Plan B as a failed agenda.
De Leon 10-9

Round 6
This round is being fought more cautiously. Lock has been cautious most of the fight but De Leon appears to be taking the round off. He’s throwing one punch at a time, not really putting any combinations together. Lock lands a nice left, probably his best of the fight, but it does nothing to impede the movement of De Leon. De Leon doesn’t have to be very active to win these rounds. His jab is landing, making any combos irrelevant against a mostly inactive opponent.
De Leon 10-9

Round 7
Lock has given up on circling the ring. He is still exchanging with De Leon and that is a bad idea. Honestly it is more of the same here.
De Leon 10-9

Round 8
De Leon is doing enough to win these rounds. Lock is starting to show swelling on his face under his right eye. De Leon is fighting southpaw but Lock isn’t adjusting to it. De Leon lands more power shots while Lock moves around the ring, not throwing enough to make a stand on the cards.
De Leon 10-9

Round 9
Lock is moving more this round, fighting from the outside again. De Leon complains from a poke in the eye. This isn’t MMA. De Leon is retreating a little more and Lock is following landing some jabs.
Lock 10-9

Round 10
They trade soft jabs, which is alarming since this is the last round of the fight. More aggression, especially from Lock, would be nice here. Lock lands a nice left that backs De Leon to the corner. Too little too late. Lock did enough this round while De Leon was coasting.
Lock 10-9

Inside Fights scores it 98-92 De Leon

Official Decision: Daniel Ponce de Leon by unanimous decision 96-94, 97-93, 96-94

Saul Alvarez vs. Jose Miguel Cotto
Referee: Tony Weeks

Round 1
Alvarez is 19 years old but turned pro when he was 15. Cotto is far more experienced. Cotto lands a left that buckles Alvarez. Saul is in trouble. Cotto swarms as Alvarez falls into the ropes. The ropes kept him up. Alvarez survives a knockdown but backs away on wobbly legs. Cotto continues the storm in the opposite corner. Cotto cannot put the kid down but wins the round easily.
Cotto 10-9

Round 2
Alvarez survived the first round scare and is more composed this round. Alvarez is landing good right hooks off of his jab. Alvarez lands a four-punch unanswered combo. Alvarez lands a right uppercut that causes Cotto to touch the mat with his gloves, ruled aptly a knockdown.
Alvarez 10-8

Round 3
Cotto is pressuring the younger Alvarez. Alvarez countered with a nice one-two. Alvarez throws a jab. Right to the head and left to the body from Alvarez. Alvarez is on his horse and moving around the ring while Cotto stalks, without punching much.
Alvarez 10-9

Round 4
Cotto is tucking behind his guard and barreling forward while Alvarez picks him apart. Alvarez lands numerous combos and Cotto is throwing short punches but not putting enough together to take this round, or any after the first for that matter.
Alvarez 10-9

Round 5
Alvarez has hit his groove now. Cotto is falling behind on the cards but is a durable opponent. After a good start, Cotto is turning into the fighter Golden Boy expected him to be prior to this fight. Alvarez is showing good fundamentals and picking the slower Cotto apart.
Alvarez 10-9

Round 6
Cotto moves in towards Alvarez but he’s too slow to keep up. Alvarez is landing not only effective shots but the more powerful ones.
Alvarez 10-9

Round 7
Cotto is slowing down. He’s throwing less punches and Alvarez is in a comfort zone. I wish I could give different updates here but this is becoming all Alvarez as his accuracy and power are slowing Cotto down. Alvarez backs Cotto against the ropes and finishes the round impressively.
Alvarez 10-9

Round 8
Cotto is fighting a more spirited round, perhaps fueled by desperation. Alvarez is backing away while Cotto is aggressive. Alvarez is patient while Cotto is landing the higher volume of blows. It’s enough to give Cotto the round.
Cotto 10-9

Round 9
Alvarez is more active this round, getting back to the work that gave him the earlier rounds. Cotto backs up and Alvarez swarms him. Alvarez is looking for the finish. And he gets it as Tony Weeks calls a halt to the fight as Cotto just isn’t throwing enough punches against an all-out assault from Alvarez.

Official Decision: Saul Alvarez by TKO at 2:51 in R9
