Lagos — The Cross River State Government has refuted a news report (not THISDAY) purporting that the Governor of the state, Senator Liyel Imoke was involved in a ghastly motor accident, and has been subsequently flown abroad for further medical treatment to an undisclosed European country.

"We wish to state categorically that there is no iota of truth in this story. The Governor has traveled to the United States on a routine visit to attend to some earlier scheduled meetings and not for any medical emergency as the report may insinuate. “We find the report not only distasteful but in bad faith and a move by the reporter to embarrass the Governor, and the Government and people of Cross River State," a statement made available to THISDAY said.

The statement recalled that the Governor's convoy was involved in a minor road accident about two kilometres from the Obudu Mountain Resort about three weeks ago, after inspecting some on-going rural road projects in Biase, Yakurr and Obubra Local Government Areas before attending to funeral wake keep of late Chief Steve Agba, a one time commissioner. and that of Madam Beatrice Ayade, mother of Prof. Ben Ayade, a businessman and another PDP stalwart in the area.
