Acting President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday continued with his re-engineering with the sack of the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Alhaji Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo and his replacement with Alhaji Shehu Ladan.

A statement to that effect signed by his senior special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ima Niboro said Ladan was expected to execute the administration’s vision of transforming the NNPC into a global brand and player.

It said the acting president thanked Barkindo who was present at the swearing in of the new ministers earlier in the day for his stewardship and wished him well in his future endeavours.

The new NNPC boss, retired from NNPC on April 6, 2009, as group executive director, commercial and investment. He was also former deputy managing director of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), executive director of NETCo as well as NPDC, both subsidiaries of NNPC.

Meanwhile, Acting President Jonathan will take charge of the Ministry of Power for a certain period in a determined effort to ensure improved power supply in the country, according to Niboro.

He told State House correspondents shortly after the swearing of the new ministers that a new concept had been developed for the ministry and that the acting president would take responsibility as minister for some time.

The ministry, he further explained, would now be run as a body that would be chaired by the acting president as chairman and the minister of state for power as deputy chairman which would take charge of a new power initiative to be unveiled in a matter of days.

“This body will work in close harmony with the power sub-committee of the Presidential Advisory Council and Prof. Barth Nnaji heads this committee. He is an experienced power consultant, that is why you see those positions are vacant,” Niboro further pointed out.

On the vacant positions in the ministries of health and water resources, he said they would be filled by the two ministerial nominees from Ebonyi and Taraba states whose names had been forwarded to the Senate for screening and clearance if they scaled through the screening.
